About Southwark:

Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate and forward-thinking. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures that our residents and businesses are central to everything we do. If you want to make a difference at a local level, apply to Southwark Council today.

The Role:

The Building Safety Manager position is to take responsibility for and cooperate with the Principal Responsible Person and Responsible Person/s in relation to whole building safety by coordinating and assuring all building-related activities to ensure compliance with the requirements for the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021, and associated statutory and internal building safety management system requirements across the Council’s housing stock. The post-holder will actively engage with residents on matters affecting their general well-being, health, safety and security, and the environment within and around the building by empowering them on their own and their neighbour’s building safety.

The Building Safety Manager will also coordinate access to quality information and facilitate appropriate opportunities to support stakeholder training needs and assist in the development and maintenance of the Building Safety Case and Safety Case Reports and other associated documentation pertaining to allocated high-rise buildings so they both obtain and retain their Building Assurance Certificates.

  • You would be part of a flexible, agile and high preforming team who understands the value of continuous learning and development
  • You will need to build and maintain productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, being proactive in your approach
  • You will use technology to assist in the planning, inspection and review of our properties across the borough with minimum supervision
  • You will play a pivotal part in the team to ensure a collaborative and ‘can do’ and positive attitude is key to engaging with colleagues and residents through the use of excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • You will occasionally attend estate based meetings and in the case of an unplanned event, support emergency situations should they occur
  • Following training, you will be required to achieve the principal accountabilities and person specification stated within the job description.
