Duties
Serves as troubleshooter on all technical equipment problems for hearings, Senate proceedings and in the television and recording studio; locates source of the problem or breakdown; makes repairs or modifications as quickly as possible. Provides operational engineering support for Senate proceedings and other productions. Implements all phases of equipment and system installations; plans, modifies new and existing equipment systems; fabricates custom mounting and special needs devices. Troubleshooting PCs and network communication issues. Configuring servers, software, and network VLANS. Managing trouble tickets with IT technical support. Identifies improvements in equipment, operation and system design. Establishes fiber optic, analog and digital video and audio paths for video, audio, intercom and video returns; checks quality of signals; verifies equipment operation and signal levels. Installs, configures and maintains robotics systems for operators to store and recall camera shots. Configures software-based equipment such as the Senate floor and hearing audio systems, in-house routing system, PC and server based systems and telephone interface devices. Researches systems and items for purchase and maintains equipment inventory. Participates in Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning, including exercises, drills and training.

Qualifications
Work requires an Associate’s Degree in electrical engineering or a related field; and three to five years of technical experience in system maintenance and repair; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills:
- Knowledge of the operational and maintenance characteristics of television and audio recording equipment.
- Knowledge of electronic engineering procedures as applied to television, radio and networked audio equipment.
- Experience with IP network configuration, Windows and Linux operating systems, and IP video encoding and streaming.
- Skill in the setup, operation, and maintenance of broadcast quality television and radio systems.
- Ability to read and create engineering drawings and documentation, develop action plans for equipment installation, and instruct production staff in equipment operation.
- Ability to repair and install equipment, and troubleshoot and diagnose system problems.
- Ability to maintain inventory database and repair records for equipment.
- Ability to operate a full range of broadcast television test equipment, meters, analyzers and related devices.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to deal with others, using tact and diplomacy.
