Broadband Network Test is vital to the delivery cycle between design and deployment into BT’s live platforms. The Broadband Team uses BT’s world-renowned Network Test Facility to verify new products before launch and validate hardware/software upgrades that enhance BT’s Broadband ISP platforms. This role ensures that BT’s customers receive the best Broadband Service.

We are recruiting a Network Test Specialist to be accountable for all technical aspects when executing end-to-end test demand for the Broadband platforms and the services they support. The Network Test Specialist will ensure all testing is appropriately resourced, prioritised and completed against agreed timescales, creating, and nurturing excellent relationships with up and downstream stakeholders.


As the Network Test Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the respective model environments are aligned to the live deployments and will ensure efficiency in model design and deployment is under continual review. The role holder is expected to be a recognised SME at the directorate level for Broadband Tests, demonstrate proficient skills in Test automation, and share this knowledge with people across Fixed Networks. In addition, by understanding the Broadband area's strategy, you will contribute to the Test unit's evolution plans whilst continually looking to adopt a unified "Best Practice" and 100% compliance with all Test processes and procedures.

The successful candidate will work alongside a close-knit team based in our Adastral office. In addition, the role offers an opportunity for hybrid working (3 days in the office and 2 days wherever you like).

What you’ll be doing
  • Accountable for end-to-end validation of multiple new components or features across Broadband by coordinating the appropriate configuration, data analysis, recording results and drawing of insights to ensure all deliverables meet and exceed expectations.
  • Responsible for embedding Test Automation and skills in Broadband Team.
  • Actively engages teams across Fixed Networks, ensuring that the team deliver on commitments.
  • Technical owner for Broadband and collaboration across Tests, aligning processes and procedures to maximise efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Test Team.
  • Identify and embed the use of new technology and working methodologies to drive efficiency.
  • Mentor other Engineering professionals, helping to improve the team’s abilities by acting as a technical resource.
  • Champion continuously, develop and share knowledge on emerging trends and changes in Network Engineering with the team.
Skills and experience you'll need
  • Minimum Cisco CCNP or equivalent certification/experience
  • Advanced or Expert skills in network automation using Python/Ansible or other similar technologies
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven network implementation, configuration, troubleshooting, integration, and testing expertise.
  • Proven experience in leading and delivering Test Automation and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proven experience in end-to-end Testing on both captive and production environments
  • Experience in using Python-based tools to assist network configuration and test
  • Experience with broadband network technologies such as PPP/Radius AAA
  • Proven experience in Network Infrastructure Testing (e.g., Vendor code upgrades, regression testing, in-life issue testing, new feature platform/product testing).
  • Proven experience in creating technical documentation.
