Job description
At AECOM, we’re delivering a better world.
We are trusted to bring together the best people, ideas, technical expertise, and digital solutions to our work in transportation, buildings, water, the environment, and new energy. We’re one global team – 47,000 strong – driven by a common purpose to deliver a better world.
Here, you will have freedom to grow in a world of opportunity.
We continue to grow and to support that growth, we are interested in talking with professional Bridge Engineers at Engineer, Senior or Principal level to join our Bridges and Structures team in Croydon, with the opportunity to work flexibly between the office and from home.
What will you do?
We have been appointed across all rail routes for the Civil Assessments Framework Agreement (CAFA) contract and our team in Croydon supports the Anglia, Kent, Sussex, and Wessex routes.
As an Engineer, you will have the ability to interpret sometimes complicated legacy structures up to 150 years old which form part of our existing rail infrastructure, midway through their lives to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the UK network. In the delivery of our work, we aim to safeguard the public who use the network, whilst ensuring the bridges and structures we work to upgrade with Network Rail are more sustainable for our future generations and minimising operational carbon. There are opportunities to innovate within the role such as the development of Digital Twins where assets can be monitored and modelled in real time, allowing interventions to be more proactive.
Typical work may include:
- Undertaking Level 1 (for example grillages) & Level 2 (finite element analysis) assessments and design strengthening/refurbishment works for overbridges, footbridges, and underbridges to all types of structural materials including steel, wrought-iron, cast-iron, pre-stressed and reinforced concrete and masonry arches.
- Scheduling and planning for site works and safe access in advance of bridge inspections.
- Carry out and lead inspection for assessments. AECOM offer training to become a Network Rail STE4 qualified inspector.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of a BEng degree in Civil Engineering or similar ICE Accredited degree.
- Will need to demonstrate a clear plan to progress to Chartered Membership of a recognised Professional Institution in the near future. AECOM offers a training scheme to support you with this.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of structural analysis in LUSAS or similar software package.
- Experience in design and assessment of bridges and structures.
