Job description

The Operational Logistics (Op Lo) Directorate has been established to provide a national delivery model for front line logistics to Border Force (BF). The Command covers three primary areas, known as pillars which cover various work areas within Op Lo.

The pillars are:

  • People – Health & Safety, Op Lo Spokes, Transformation, and the Secretariat.
  • Infrastructure – Estates, National Frontier Approvals Unit (NFAU), Cyclamen Port Reconfiguration Team, the Queen’s Warehouse and Criminal Justice Unit (CJU).
  • Services – Procurement, Contract Monitoring and Assets and Fleet.

Op Lo operates on a Hub & Spoke model. The Hub (pillars) provide centralised logistical expertise whilst directing out and fielding in requirements to Border Force frontline via the Op Lo Spokes. Op Lo Spokes are the Op Lo face to the frontline customers and field all customer requirements and enquiries.

Person specification

The post holder will need sound IT skills, particularly, Word, MS Outlook and Excel.

We are looking for candidates that will be able to:

  • Lead as the central point of contact for estates matters relating to accommodation and capacity, including regular communication with Ministry Of Justice and Intelligent Client Function.
  • Lead work streams of complex projects, monitoring progress and ensuring that key milestones are reached.
  • Confidently lead national and regional working groups comprised of all grades and including staff representatives.
  • Attend Border Force Offices nationally to conduct independent observations and provide detailed and comprehensive reports and recommendations of effective usage of our accommodation.
  • Keep a register of all site plans and Full Time Equivalent figures.
  • Produce a register of all buildings, Ports and Trailer Provided accommodation including current lease details.
  • Liaise with external organisations and other government departments (external stakeholder engagement).
  • Liaise and advise stakeholders on all site matters and trying to resolve accommodation issues including internal stakeholder management.
  • You may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of your grade and within the limits of your skill, competence and training.

You will be expected to regularly travel to other Border Force locations, with overnight stays.

Sift and Interview dates

Appearance

As part of this role you will be required to wear a uniform (which will be provided). Staff must ensure that their uniform is worn correctly, in line with these uniform standards, is kept clean and is well presented. To support this requirement, adequate uniform supplies will be available and issued. Tattoos, including henna

A non-offensive visible tattoo is permissible, as long as it is not on the face or on the front or side of the neck (above the collar line). Tattoos behind the ear lobe on the back of the neck are also acceptable within these policy guidelines. You will be required to cover tattoos, when it is seen as appropriate for certain official events, e.g. State Funerals, Opening of Parliament, Remembrance Parades and other Ceremonial events. Under no circumstances should tattoos which could be considered offensive be visible. Hybrid working is an option
