About us

Our purpose is simple, to save lives at sea. Since the 19th century, our crews have been risking their lives to save those who are in danger of drowning.

We’re currently looking for a Buyer to join our Procurement Operations Team. The team’s vision is “a fit for the future Supply Chain, where goods and services arrive at the right time, to the right quality at the lowest total cost”, in support of our life saving activities

The successful candidate will be part of a team of transactional / tactical buyers responsible for the day-to-day purchase of goods and services for the RNLI.

Our ideal candidate will have tactical procurement experience with good planning and organising skills to ensure that goods and services are available, to the correct quality, on time and in the right place. You should also have some understanding and experience of creative, print and marketing.

Your Role

As a Buyer, you will focus on the following areas:

  • Raising purchase orders and ensuring requisitions are allocated to existing contracts, supplier and/or catalogues.
  • Ensuring good and services are received on time and in full (OTIF).
  • Resolving any problems that may arise in the course of achieving OTIF and flagging any ongoing performance issues to the relevant Team Leader/Category Manager, using all relevant data and exception reporting.
  • Provide full reporting of supplier OTIF to relevant Team Leader/Category Manager and supporting the production of supplier performance data.
  • Undertaking tactical buying using a three quote RFQ process for low value items with direction from the appropriate Category Manager.
  • Use MRP effectively and efficiently and ensure all daily tasks and action messages are completed and all orders are placed as required both by MRP and in line with the relevant Category Strategy

About You

You’ll welcome responsibility and work well under pressure with good people skills. You will be able to plan, co-ordinate and report and be willing to take responsibility for problem resolution and data accuracy. To be considered as the Buyer you will need:

  • Essential – current experience in transactional / tactical buying and use of MRP systems.
  • Desirable - BTec, NVQ 3 or A levels, and working towards CIPS professional qualifications or equivalent.
  • Good understanding of procurement procedures.
  • Ability to analyse data and make recommendations based on evidence
  • Proactive and good problem-solving skills with a commitment to continuous improvement
