Job description
We are seeking a professional candidate with previous experience with bookkeeping in a law firm. The candidate should be a self-starter and have the ability to diligently execute bookkeeping work at the firm. We are looking for someone to join our team as early as possible.
The responsibilities of the position will include:
- accurately issuing numerous cheques on multiple files per day;
- daily bank deposits and loan payouts on behalf of clients;
- accurate and timely filing and retention of financial records and documents;
- entering invoices in a timely fashion;
- monthly reconciliation of pooled trust and general accounts in several institutions;
- handling accounts payable and accounts receivable;
- conducting payroll with Ceridian payroll services;
- GST remittances;
- Law Society Trust Account fees and Professional Liability Insurance remittances;
- monthly review of revenue and expense statements;
- ensuring compliance with Law Society Rules;
- evaluating cash flow, cost controls and expenses for decision making purposes;
- compiling annual Law Society Audit information;
- all other duties related to the accurate accounting and reporting requirements of a law firm.
The successful applicant should have the following qualifications:
- be familiar with, or willing to learn, the NB Law Society accounting rules;
- have a working knowledge of accounting programs;
- be proficient with Microsoft Office (such as Word and Outlook);
- possess effective written and verbal communication skills;
- be a true team player and be pro-active within the office; and
- have the ability to meet strict deadlines and prioritize various requests.
Compensation & Hours:
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Regular full-time position with working hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM subject to change from time to time. We provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes a company pension plan, medical, dental, and prescription drug. The rate of pay will be based on education and experience.
