The Opportunity:
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a book conservation background aspiring to work with historical collections within a dynamic and supportive environment. The post holder will deliver conservation/preservation treatments for the University’s rare/unique collections of rare books, bound manuscripts and archive materials whist ensuring conservation standards are met. The post holder will work in close collaboration with Heritage Collections colleagues as part of the Conservation & Collections Management team.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- Either a degree in a relevant subject (e.g. book conservation) , a degree in a non-related subject and a postgraduate qualification, or comprehensive experience in book conservation
- Comprehensive knowledge of conservation working practices and procedures with a focus on book conservation ; thorough understanding of current professional best practice
- Accuracy and attention to detail within a methodical approach to planning and execution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, coupled with analytical thinking, particularly in relation to disseminating findings and recommendations
- Self-motivation, good time-management; use of initiative and own judgement, tact, persuasiveness and assertiveness
