Overall Job Purpose
The scope of the role relates, but is not limited to:
On behalf of HM Coroners being responsible for the collection, care, removal and transport of deceased persons from a range of scenarios and locations, which sometimes may be distressing, from any location within our geographical operating area to the stated mortuary within Berkshire. (Royal Berkshire or Wexham Park Hospital)
Safely & courteously drive the company owned vehicle and maintain it in a clean and professional manner. Always display a clean and professional image of EMFS.
Full training will be provided in addition to uniform and Personal Protective Equipment.
Main Purpose of the Job
General
Respond immediately and safely to all calls and requests for assistance.
Safely and professionally drive the company vehicle to perform ‘First Call’ removals of deceased persons in accordance with the guidelines detailed by the HM Coroners Office in addition to EMFS policies and procedures.
Follow process for chain of custody, paperwork and deceased identification
If applicable, liaise with First Responders, Coroner, hospital staff, Senior Living facility and accommodate their processes and procedures.
For home removal, courteously and professionally interact with bereaved family members; exhibit sensitivity to the environment; minimize conversation and leave a warm and courteous impression.
Follow company procedures in removing soiled garments, bedding or other materials.
Transport the deceased person to the designated mortuary and comply with any stated procedures upon arrival.
Willing and able to assist with any other duties which arise on a day to day basis which enhance the service and presentation of the company.
Vehicle Maintenance
Inspect the vehicle at the commencement of your shift checking / refilling the fuel, oils & coolant levels and noting any bodywork deformities.
Always ensure an immaculate appearance of the company vehicle, ensuring that it is maintained in a state of readiness and portrays a professional image of EMFS.
Sanitize the vehicle after each collection and safely dispose of any medical waste and soiled clothing / linens, as appropriate.
Identify any vehicle or operating defects and report them to the Transport Manager for immediate repair.
Equipment
Maintain all vehicle equipment in a clean and serviceable condition
Maintain appropriate levels of PPE on the vehicle and follow the correct disposal procedures when contaminated.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability
Possess the emotional strength and resilience required to work with the deceased in a variety of circumstances whilst maintaining a calm, mature and compassionate disposition.
Ability to be a Team Player and work a 4-watch Rota system which will includes weekends, nights and Bank Holidays.
Maintain the appropriate level of physical fitness / strength required to undertake the requirements of this role e.g. Lift / Push / Pull.
Ability to drive in hazardous conditions, heavy traffic and poor weather conditions
Administration
Complete all paperwork and administration as required to an acceptable standard
Use Information Technology (IT) as required, and in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018
Keep any personal records up to date.
Ensure confidentiality is always maintained.
Operational Competency
Take part in any required continuous training programs by attending internal / external training courses, as directed by your Line Manager or Training Academy.

Requirements:
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Good level of physical fitness, as the role can involve heavy lifting, pushing & pulling duties.
- The necessary documentation for a DBS, reference and driving licence check.
- Pride in your appearance ensuring that you are always professional.
- Caring and empathetic nature.
- Determination to deliver excellent client services.
Experience of dealing sympathetically with deceased persons would be an advantage.
Shifts – 2 x 12-hours day, 2 x 12-hour nights followed by 4 Rota Days on a 4 Watch Rota system
Benefits – 20 Days holiday per year, including Public Holiday, plus Statutory Sick Pay
