An essential component of Pfizer at Sandwich, our Pharmaceutical Sciences function assists Pfizer’s early to late-stage portfolio translating new chemical entities into commercial drug products. Pharmaceutical Sciences at Sandwich is a fully integrated CMC capability that encompasses state-of-the-art active pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis and drug product design as well as a cGMP manufacturing and clinical trials supply chain. Within Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Drug Product Design department utilises expertise in materials science, formulation design and process understanding to deliver innovative new medicines.
We are seeking a scientist to work in a team of research and technical staff with a specific emphasis on characterising the biopharmaceutics properties of solid oral drug products for the global market.
You will predominantly be involved in a ‘hands-on’ role, working on assigned work packages focusing on dosage form performance characterization to inform drug product design. With appropriate training, you will conduct solubility and intrinsic dissolution studies, biorelevant dissolution testing including TIM-1 gastrointestinal simulator, USP Apparatus testing (USP 1, 2, 3 and 4) and Artificial Stomach Duodenum studies. The role will involve generating and delivering high-quality work and data to enable the timely progression of drug product development projects in Pfizer’s portfolio. You will be expected to thrive in a team environment and react to unforeseen changes flexibly, quickly and calmly.
The position will involve a combination of laboratory experimental work, documentation, and interaction with project teams and vendors. You will benefit from the mentorship of subject matter experts, where your existing knowledge and experience will be enhanced through engagement in a program of active learning and training tailored to accelerate your contribution to the diverse business of DPD. Additionally, you will work closely with cross-functional groups such as Analytical and Regulatory CMC.

Role Responsibilities:
  • Develop and validate LC methodology for analysing small molecules in complex biorelevant matrices.
  • Perform dissolution studies with drug products using a range of dissolution technologies
  • Undertake high-quality scientific experimentation independently or as part of a team to assist project teams in decision-making process.
  • Review other colleagues’ scientific data in an electronic laboratory notebook according to the best practice.
  • Develop and maintain a contemporary in-depth realisation of the innovative science and technology used to characterise the biopharmaceutical performance of oral dosage forms.
  • Ensure accurate, timely entries are made in the electronic laboratory notebook system according to accepted good practice.
  • With project team members evaluate, interpret, and report results.
  • Author technical reports and contribute to regulatory submissions as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with appropriate documentation (SOPs, instruction manuals, risk assessments, etc.) so that all experimental activities are conducted in accordance with approved safety and quality procedures.
  • Ensure safe working practices are followed and maintained, both in own and others’ work.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate in pharmaceutical or allied sciences i.e. a degree in pharmacy, pharmaceutical science/technology, chemistry, chemical engineering, or life sciences.
  • Practical experience in a pharmaceutical setting which may include general laboratory procedures, drug product characterisation techniques, and formulation development is beneficial.
  • Evidence of consistently high-quality performance.
