The Fleet Street Clinic is a long established, independent, and multidisciplinary clinic offering a range of private medical and healthcare services to individual patients and corporate clients.
The clinic has pioneered use of point-of-care PCR testing in a patient-facing setting, which we have been able to offer since 2016. Our service has expanded considerably in the face of demand for rapid coronavirus PCR diagnosis, and over the past 2 years we have developed state-of-the-art lab with several PCR testing platforms in use.
We specialise in providing rapid PCR testing for private patients and for our corporate clients on bespoke projects within the film, entertainment, and media industries. We are also working to expand our portfolio of other in-house medical diagnostic tests, notably relating to women’s health and sexual health.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time registered Biomedical Scientist to join the team in our newly built and UKAS accredited facility.
This is a clinic-based role for 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, exact working hours to be agreed.
Responsibilities and duties:
- The successful candidate will have a varied and fulfilling role.
- Working with the Quality Manager, the role will ensure UKAS laboratory standards are met in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.
- This will include preparing documentation to present at meetings, protocol write-up, maintaining records, daily quality control and sample testing, authorising reports, managing laboratory queries, troubleshooting, liaising with suppliers and to train/monitor laboratory assistants.
- With support, the role will lead on introducing new methods and support POCT testing.
- Carry out a range of routine technical and clerical duties within sample Reception
- Receive, identify and prepare for analysis all incoming samples / request forms entering the data accurately on the laboratory IT system
- Follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures
- Involved in the environmental monitoring system
- Maintain agreed stock levels
- Assist in maintaining high standards of lab procedures and training
- Working in partnership with the quality manager to ensure all staff are competency trained. Supporting with planning CPD activities for the laboratory team.
- To ensure the notification of adverse incidents according to Fleet Street Clinic's internal policy and take responsibility for the investigation and resolution of incidents and reporting to a regulatory / advisory body if required.
- To support in the monitoring all non-compliances
- To take part in the identification and implementation of ongoing quality improvements and assist in monitoring the quality indicators
- To participate in equipment procurement reviews, as and when required
- Daily review of the IQC
The ideal candidate will have the following attributes:
- BSc in a biological sciences subject
- Excellent written and spoken English
- Previous experience in a UK laboratory setting
- Confident in a patient-facing environment
- Previous experience of taking lead at meetings with UKAS
- Previous experience with managing introduction of new assays
- Highly Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- HCPC registered

Salary: £31,000.00-£36,000.00 per year
