Job description
Annex 21 will be considered for Trainees for a period of 1 year.
NHS Lanarkshire is looking for a Biomedical Scientist to join the Haematology Department. Based at one of our acute sites the post holder will be required to cover the wider Lanarkshire locailty.
The post holder will process a broad range of specialist and routine laboratory diagnostic investigations in Haematology/Blood Transfusion using a range of scientific measurements and technical procedures on patient samples and provide advice to clinicians and other healthcare staff as to appropriateness of tests and time-scales. The post holder will be responsible for own work and uses specialist training to operate complex equipment and solve problems and acts as a mentor to less experienced Biomedical Scientists and participates in training /supervision of Trainee Biomedical Scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants.
KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB
State HCPC registration with the Health Professions Council is mandatory.
BSc honours degree in Biomedical Science or equivalent, which is acceptable for Health Professions Council registration.
Specialist Diploma in either Haematology/ Blood Transfusion/Blood Science or evidence to demonstrate working towards completion
Formal evidence of specialist knowledge of a range of discipline specific procedures.
Evidence of continuing professional development, for example, a specialist portfolio of development, attendance at specialist courses, training on new instrumentation and learning through reflective practice.
