The National Mathematics College is an elite STEM college which opened in 2016. The College is small in size, with currently about 110 students (and plans to reach 150 by 2023/24), but big in ambition! We are setup to teach a sixth form curriculum, focusing exclusively on STEM subjects. We do this through four programmes:
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join The National Mathematics and Science College in this important role.
We are looking to appoint a Biology Technician. This is a new role resulting from the continued growth of the College. As a member of a thriving Biology Department, the Biology Technician will play a vital role in providing technical support for the delivery of the Biology curriculum and management of the Department’s resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- To provide apparatus, specimens, materials and chemicals as requested
- Control the storage of chemicals, specimens, materials, apparatus and textbooks/ resources;
- Liaise with the Head of Biology on the need for purchasing chemicals and equipment.
- Keep a regular check on stock, specimens, materials, chemicals and equipment.
- Support the maintenance of the department stock list of materials.
- Ensure stocks of experimental sheets and other key resources are maintained at suitable levels.
- Submit maintenance requests for repairs to the department.
- Co-ordinate the use of laboratories and apparatus.
- Co-ordinate the safe disposal of unwanted chemicals, waste and cleaning apparatus.
- Maintain safety information (CLEAPSS, Hazards etc).
- To support the Biology department in meeting the College and department health and safety rules.
- Liaise with the chemistry technician regarding ordering and storage of chemicals and equipment.
The role is part-time (15-20h per week) term time only.
Salary: £17,500 - 19,000 based on experience (pro-rated)
