Job description
About us
Everyone should have access to innovative therapies that represent the promise of lasting cures. At Theolytics we are working to transform patients’ lives, through world-leading science, with a great team. Our discovery platforms harness the power of viruses to systematically identify therapies optimised for a chosen patient population, with a focus on oncology.

Opportunity
We are seeking a Bioinformatician to join our dynamic and multidisciplinary team to support the identification and development of therapeutics at the intersection of oncology, virology, genomics and transcriptomics. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing strategies to analyse functional genomics, explore viral evolution, and perform gene expression analysis using transcriptomics data. This is an outstanding opportunity for a Bioinformatician or Computational Biologist to work in a translational setting. The role will suit a self-starter with excellent communication, who enjoys collaborating across various scientific disciplines and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
Key responsibilities
Analyse and interpret high-throughput sequencing data from virus, cancer and clinical samples;
Contribute to bioinformatics projects to address biological questions with statistical confidence;
Implement existing or novel computational pipelines to process complex sequencing datasets (Illumina and Oxford Nanopore);
Perform differential gene expression analysis, pathway analysis, and other downstream analyses for RNA-Seq and scRNA-Seq data;
Collaborate with scientists and informaticians to design, implement, and improve new data analysis workflows;
Collate and present research findings at both internal and external meetings;
Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in bioinformatics, computational biology, and biostatistics; and
Integrate into Theolytics' bioinformatics team and contribute to developing the company’s informatics infrastructure.
We’re looking for someone that has
A post-graduate degree or equivalent experience in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related field;
Knowledge of cancer biology and virology preferably in the pharmaceutical and/or biotech industry;
Experience and knowledge of the technology used in current bioinformatics research, including scripting languages (Python, Julia, R), software development practices, workflow management systems (Snakemake, NextFlow), and cloud computing tools (GCP, AWS);
Experience designing and analysing bulk and single-cell RNA-Seq experiments and applying biostatistical methods to relevant datasets;
A proven track record of delivering sequencing projects using different experimental protocols and bioinformatic analyses;
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated experience in complex biological/clinical data analysis;
Team player who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment, and is adaptable to evolving business needs; and
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting scientific results to broad audiences.
It would be useful if you have
A proven track record in bioinformatics and/or virus genomics/transcriptomics research in the context of oncology and/or virology;
Expertise in best practices for software development;
Interest in building user-friendly interactive data visualisation tools (e.g. using Dash or Shiny);
Demonstrated experience with GSEA and Pathway analysis for RNAseq and scRNASeq data;
Experience in the implementation of relational databases (e.g. SQL);
Active interest in knowledge sharing at the wet/dry lab interface;
Experience in using or managing cloud computing platforms; and
Wet lab experience and/or interaction with wet lab scientists and familiarity with sample and library preparation for high-throughput sequencing.
