Biodiversity Manager
London
As a Barclays Biodiversity Manager, you will report to the Director Environment and Social Policy and will be responsible for supporting the Sustainability team’s remit, including the continuous improvement of Barclays’ strategic approach to nature and biodiversity and other sustainability themes as appropriate. Given that Nature and Biodiversity are nascent areas of work for Barclays. The role will also encompass those activities that may require accelerated focus to ensure successful delivery.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We’re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally are able to request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances. • Supporting the Director, Environmental and Social Policy, VP, Nature and Biodiversity on developing Barclays’ response and strategic approach to nature and biodiversity
- Working with other team members leading on sustainable finance, climate change, human rights, and deforestation
- Supporting team input into relevant external fora and industry initiatives on the above topics
- Supporting engagement with different teams across the bank on these topics and ensuring that their input is fed into any resulting approach or methodology
- Contributing to conduct regular horizon scanning to ensure that any emerging issues across nature and biodiversity are factored into strategy development
- Contributing to the preparation of relevant content for use in internal communications and external disclosures/ benchmarks on the above projects
- Supporting the team’s work on transaction reviews and Enhancing Due Diligence process as required providing SME input relating to live transactions and referrals
- Contributing to and supporting colleagues in the bank’s policy position development and training across the range of environmental and social issues
• Solid understanding of sustainability in the context of the financial services industry, particularly in relation to nature and biodiversity
- Excellent analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative) and communication skills with the ability to look at both the detail and the strategic elements of projects
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- Solid stakeholder management skills, both internal and external to support engagement with external initiatives and with colleagues from different teams
• Direct experience of working on sustainability-related methodologies or frameworks within the financial services industry and in relation to nature and biodiversity
- Experience of environmental and social risk management, in the context of client due diligence
- Background or degree expertise in working on nature-related issues
