The Lactation Network is hiring a Billing Specialist. Reporting into the Billing Team Lead, the Billing Specialist is a key member of the billing team and is responsible for processing health insurance claims, specifically for breast pumps and other DME, as well as collecting and entering insurance claim information.

Breakdown of the role
- Claims & Eligibility (50%). As a Billing Specialist, you’ll ensure timely and accurate submissions of claims and conduct benefit calls on behalf of the patient to ensure they are covered through us.
- Patient & Insurance Communication (40%). You’ll handle patient and insurance calls, while managing a billing inbox. This role is responsible for addressing and resolving patient issues and concerns regarding their claim.
- Record Handling (10%). Ability to move through database systems quickly and efficiently while maintaining a high attention to detail.
- Organize hundreds of patients’ paperwork and submit completed paperwork to insurance providers and billing partners.
- Ensure correct paperwork is submitted and prescriptions are on file.
- Correctly fax both prescriptions and medical records to insurance companies
- Responsible for billing all products and services.
- Ensure billing is completed in a timely matter.
- Support the billing coordinator with the confirmation of benefits when necessary.
- Contributes to team effort by not only delivering on defined responsibilities, but also supporting other team members in their roles as needed.
- Keep up with changes in the billing system, with insurance carriers, and/or with networks and clearly communicate any issues and barriers.

- Undergraduate degree (preferred)
- 1-3 years of billing and/or collection experience working in a healthcare setting
- Experience working with payers including Commercial, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and Managed Care
- Strong knowledge of Windows-based software applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and third-party portals
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate with payors and other departments.
- Ability to outline and clearly communicate root causes of common problems and recommend solutions.
- Capable of making timely, independent decisions
- Exceptional customer service skills required, including interpersonal conversation, patience, and empathy.
