Chelmsford City Council is looking for enthusiastic and committed people to help us maintain a quality Benefits service. The Benefits Officer is responsible for providing excellent customer service in what can be a demanding and pressurised environment. A high standard of numeracy, literacy and accuracy is required.
The successful applicant will be part of a team responsible for all aspects of Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support assessment. As well as assessing entitlement consistently and accurately, the post holder will be required to provide benefits advice and explanations in writing, face-to-face and over the telephone. Previous experience of assessing Housing Benefit and Council Tax Support and using Capita’s Revenues and Benefits system is desirable but not essential.
Full training will be given to successful applicants without experience. Please note that until training has been successfully completed, employees will be required to work in the office. Training takes between six months and one year.
The successful applicant will be required to work 37 hours per week Monday to Friday. Chelmsford City Council operates a hybrid working policy and successful applicants will be able to work from home, with minimal need to visit the office, subject to successful completion of training as above.
Shortlisted applicants for the role will be invited to a face to face interview and competency test in week commencing 9th October 2023.
