Diageo apprentices have the best of all worlds. Our on-site, hands-on, fast-learning programmes are perfect for people who are curious and have a willingness to learn. If you want to gain an industry recognised qualification that will set you up for a career to be proud of, you’re in the right place.
Who are we?
Diageo is one of the world’s leading producers of premium drinks. We have an outstanding collection of over 200 brands, old and new, large and small, global and local – that are enjoyed in more than 180 countries around the world. Our site at Marshall’s Road in Belfast is the home of Guinness packaging for the Island of Ireland.
Our Packing Operator Apprenticeship is designed to give you a springboard for a long and exciting career in manufacturing. This two-year programme is an exciting blended learning approach of in-the-classroom and on-the-job training right at the heart of an enormous global manufacturing operation. We take this seriously, so we’ll take your future seriously.
How does the programme work?
Every week you’ll find yourself in the workplace and completing college work. You’ll have in-depth training on the different machines and different packaging lines. You’ll learn the end-to-end manufacturing process including quality checks, process improvements, line stoppages, machine maintenance and fault-finding, among much else.
Your college time will give you an introduction to the principles of manufacturing excellence and you’ll learn about food safety, quality, environment and health & safety. And at the end of the programme, you’ll roll off with bags of experience, a qualification in Food Manufacturing Excellence and a genuine prospect of a job.
What are the rewards?
The First Year apprentice salary is decided by the
Real Living Wage
which means we offer very competitive starting salaries for our apprenticeships along with an industry leading benefits package (Bonus, pension and access to share schemes all from day one). With everything you can learn here, and the long-term opportunities we have to offer, the Diageo Operator apprenticeship could just be the best decision you’ve ever made.
What are the Career Paths after the programme?
At the end of the programme, you will have obtained your SCQF Level 5 qualification in Food Manufacturing Excellence.
As a Packaging Operator, you will have deep understanding of our processes. Depending on your interests, you can also work towards a variety of Manufacturing roles, such as Process Improvement roles, Capability or Team Leadership.
Who are we looking for?
Academically we’re looking for 3 GCSE’s (Maths, English and one technical science). Please note that we will only be able to accept applications from people who have already achieved these grades.
You’ll need to be a curious, flexible, self-motivated team-player who loves to turn ideas into action. A tenacious problem-solver, who’s proud of getting a great job done, and someone who shows integrity, respect for others and, above all, a passion for learning something new every day.
We encourage anybody who is interested in this programme to apply, we welcome all backgrounds, abilities, religions, gender identities, sexualities, and ethnicities.
We know that for our business to thrive and for Diageo to realize its ambition, we depend on having diverse talent with a range of backgrounds, skills and capabilities in each of the 180 countries in which we operate and to reflect our broad consumer base.
We view diversity as one of the key enablers that helps our business to grow and our values, purpose and standards set the conditions for us to respect the unique contribution each person brings.
What should I expect from the selection process?
Selecting the right individuals to join our programme is crucial to us – we want to see all that complete this Apprenticeship succeed and keep crafting a satisfying career!
This is why we have built a 3 steps selection process:
  • 1st STEP – CV application and online game set
At this stage is important that you submit your updated CV, clearly stating your highest acquired education and your experience.
We don’t expect you to have experience in Manufacturing necessarily.
A brief description of your part time jobs, volunteering, sports, and hobbies can be a fantastic way to introduce yourself.
Right after your CV submission, you will also receive a link to an online game set. Please make sure to complete the set in a quiet environment with no distraction and stable Wi-Fi.
Following the first screening, you will then be invited to the second step.
  • 2nd STEP – Video Interview
  • 3rd and FINAL STEP – Assessment Centre
Our Talent Engagement Team is always available should you need accommodations, we will also be in touch to offer tips and help to prepare for your assessments!
