Behaviour Technician

Behaviour Technician Cornwall

Green Light PBS Ltd.
Full Time Cornwall 11.64 GBP HOURLY Today
Job description

Green Light is excited to open applications for the role of Behaviour Technician in our new Green Light Go service. Green Light Go is a new type of service that brings together quality care and support with the values-led, empowering evidence-based approaches found in applied behaviour analysis. As a Behaviour Technician you will be expected to work dynamically under the supervision of a Registered Manager and Behaviour Analyst to support individuals with their personal goals and aspirations and any needs they might have. Your support will be provided in and from the home to school, college, workplaces and the wider community. The Green Light Go team will be supporting people with key transitions in life. This could be from their family home, from a residential care home or temporary accommodation onwards to a home and lifestyle of their own.

What are Behaviour Technicians? – watch to find out:

Behaviour Technicians are occasionally found in specialist education settings using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and in ABA home programs. In these settings, Behaviour Technicians teach skills to children who need a more tailored approach to learning than is generally available. The profession is still emerging in the UK but is well established in other parts of the world. Green Light is one of the first to bring this role to adult care services for people with learning disabilities. Behaviour Technicians are trained to specific internationally recognised standards in a curriculum that includes skills teaching, assessment, behaviour reduction, data collection and ethics and code of practice.

Online providers offering Behaviour Technician training

  • Behavior University
  • Queens University Belfast Centre for Behaviour Analysis
  • Autism Partnership Foundation
  • Autism Consultancy Services
  • University of South Wales Behaviour Analysis Clinic

Green Light would welcome applications from existing RBT’s, experienced ABA Tutors, or those who have completed one of the above, or equivalent courses, and wishes to be supervised by one of our Behaviour Analysts with their competency assessment and exam. Those with training or experience in Active Support, which uses similar approaches, would also be welcome to apply too. However, Green Light is able to offer training to successful applicants, so these are not essential requirement for applicants. This role may be of interest to Support Workers, Teaching Assistants or those wishing to gain valuable experience to support future career goals, for example in Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or Social Work.

Those who become competent and pass the exam are able to become registered with the Behaviour Analyst Certification Board and use the title of ‘Registered Behaviour Technician’. This qualification is then maintained through regular supervision of any behaviour analytic practice with a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst. Green Light’s RBT’s will be expected to become Practicing Members of the UK-Society for Behaviour Analysis register and adhere to their Code of Ethical & Professional Conduct.

What will Green Light’s Behaviour Technicians do?

The role will vary reflecting the individual strengths, needs and circumstances of each person supported by Green Light. Behaviour Technicians will work directly with individuals at the centre of support, and with those around them, towards specifically agreed goals, meaningful to the person.

As a Behaviour Technician your knowledge and skills may be used, for example, where individuals need additional, focused support in order to:

  • Develop independent living, self-help, or coping skills
  • Develop social, communication and relationship skills
  • Transition to a new home
  • Access the healthcare they need
  • Minimise harmful behaviours

Perhaps the only constant theme in the work of the Behaviour Technician will be the emphasis on helping the person at the centre of support enjoy a better quality of life.

‘The Mews’

Behaviour Technicians will be supporting tenants with learning disabilities and autism moving into the Mews in Goonhavern, as well as other individuals already being supported by Green Light in our existing homes. The Mews is a brand-new development of seven two bedroom, three-bathroom homes on the edge of the village. Take a look around the Mews in this video:

What supervision and support is provided to Behaviour Technicians?

As a Behaviour Technician you will receive support and supervision from a member of Green Light’s Positive Behaviour Support team of UK Society for Behaviour Analysis registered Behaviour Analysts required to obtain and maintain your RBT qualification. You will also receive support and supervision from the Registered Manager responsible for any regulated activities being provided from the service you are based in or from. External applicants will be expected to complete our comprehensive induction programme, including our Positive Behaviour Support+ (PBS+) training programme covering autism, learning disabilities, communication, positive behaviour support, physical intervention theory and practical skills. Green Light was Cornwall Adult Social Care’s Outstanding Employer of the Year for 2022 an award given to organisations that show a commitment to delivering high quality care, while engaging staff and creating a caring culture.

What previous experience is required?

Applicants are required to have 5 GCSE passes at grade C or higher including Maths and English and at least six months experience of supporting adults or children with learning disabilities, autism and challenging behaviour. It would be advantageous if applicants have some experience of working in an ABA school, an ABA home program, or experience in one of Green Light‘s services, or similar adult service where behaviour analytic or PBS input is provided. Applicants are also welcome from those who have attended or are attending an ABA/PBS University course.

Benefits

  • Salary of £24,200 (£11.64 p/h) rising to £25,300 (£12.17 p/h) when RBT qualified

Right role, wrong time?

Those who are interested in the Behaviour Technician role but do not yet have the experience required to apply may wish to apply for other roles with Green Light in order to gain the experience training and support needed to go on to apply for the Behaviour Technician role. In fact, some of Green Light’s training has been specifically designed to be a ‘primer’ to that which is provided in Behaviour Technician training.
