St. Editha's Church is a Church of England parish church in the heart of Tamworth since 973AD. The largest parish church in Staffordshire and a grade-I listed building, we enjoy a significant visitor footfall and are committed to being a place of worship, welcome and wonder.

Following the installation of new facilities in early 2023, we have opened a brand new cafe and bookshop in the church. These have proven to be extraordinarily successful, to the extent that we are currently looking for a manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of this new venture. The ideal candidate will be a team player, creative and friendly, with excellent organisational ability and an entrepreneurial approach.

We are looking for someone with proven retail experience, used to working with volunteers, who can make a positive difference to St. Editha's and the wider area. We are interested in a candidate with a high level of integrity, honesty and commitment, who would like to see the church and community flourish together. You will be well versed in social media and marketing in order to increase footfall, outreach engagement and sales across both cafe and bookshop.

You will be managing a team of 12-15 volunteers who help staff the facilities on a rota basis. Prior experience of managing staff, paid or unpaid, is essential. Interest in events management, historic fabric and community outreach are desirable.

Responsibilities

  • To work in conjunction with other churches across the area to supply Christian materials and print/digital resources to those who need them
  • To actively seek new stock, titles and products, to broaden and diversify the retail offering
  • To monitor stock levels and to arrange the purchase of stock as and when required
  • To actively market the café and bookshop, both in print and social media, to grow our visitor base and increase footfall
  • To plan and host special events (book signings, etc) in both facilities and to help co-ordinate refreshments for special events in the church throughout the year and to act as “front of house” when required
  • To recruit, train and support volunteers to assist in the running of the café and bookshop
  • To work as part of a small team to evaluate sales performance and progress
  • To help develop a culture of welcome and hospitality in the church
  • To attend a weekly staff meeting and undertake regular supervision and line-management
  • To seek feedback from users, evaluate and re-prioritise as appropriate
