Job Summary:
gMercato, an Italian market and cafe specializing in imported goods, is seeking a skilled and experienced Barista to join our team. The Barista will be responsible for crafting and serving specialty espresso-based drinks, pastries, and other items, as well as opening and closing duties. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service skills, be passionate about coffee and pastries, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve espresso-based drinks, such as cappuccinos, lattes, and macchiatos, as well as other specialty drinks.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, ensuring that all equipment is clean and in working order.
- Assist customers with menu selection, making recommendations and answering questions as needed.
- Operate a cash register and accurately handle cash and credit card transactions.
- Follow established recipes and procedures for preparing food and drinks, and adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations.
- Open and close the cafe, including setting up and breaking down the espresso station, cleaning and restocking all equipment and supplies, and securing the cafe at the end of the day.
- Provide excellent customer service, ensuring that all customers feel welcome and that their needs are met.
- Collaborate with the Head Chef and other cafe staff to maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization in the cafe and kitchen areas.
- Maintain an inventory of supplies, including coffee beans, milk, pastries, and other items, and notify the Head Chef when supplies need to be restocked.
- Perform other duties as assigned by store management.
Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of experience as a Barista in a cafe or coffee shop environment.
- Knowledge of coffee preparation techniques, including espresso, steaming milk, and latte art.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact positively with customers.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
