Little Swift began with the aim of serving drinks worthy ‘of the lovliest skies in all of Europe’-JMW Turner. Founded in 2019 by Steve Taylor and Charlotte Kimber, Little Swift is a bar and shop serving over 140 natural wines, seasonal cocktails, 10 draft beers, speciality cider and slushy cocktails! Alongside our unrivalled drinks offering we serve the best farmhouse cheeses and artisanal charcuterie, the perfect drinking food; via our kitchenette and the deli provisions section in our shop.

Based on bustling Marine Drive we have spectacular views over Margate Main Sands across our ground and first floor seating areas.

Job Description

We are looking for:

We are on the lookout for a new Service Manager to join our managerial team in delivering memorable hospitality. We are a year-round business, open seven days a week, keen to grow our lunch and evening trade. We are open Monday to Sunday with service hours from 12pm – 11pm.

In your role as Service Manager you will be required to inspire and lead a team to deliver service that exceeds expectations, working to a consistently high standard, efficiently, cleanly and calmly. As the Service Manager when not working with Directors, you will be required to allocate the roles of waiting tables, serving in the shop, bar tending and also to cleaning and maintaining the bar, kitchen and the venue to the highest standards. To ensure the smooth running of services, with the allocation of roles to deliver service.

As Service Manager you will be expected to:

To effectively manage any breaks at times convenient to the business and not to the detriment of delivering service.

To brief team members about the days service at the start of their shift and the aims and goals during their shift individually and as a team.

Resolve customer complaints in a professional, sensitive and calm manner.

Checking in and reporting on customer experiences and product quality during their visit. Providing contextual feedback to Directors to support our numerical reporting.

To be the Company representative for any visiting council staff, police, contractors and customers.

To take responsibility for the daily reporting, and information sharing.

To ensure all staff deliver to the letter the open & close of the venue. You will be expected to check over the work of the team you lead and correct them if not delivered to the standard expected. If things are repeatedly missed you are to report this to Company Directors.

To report any performance, Human Relations, and service issues, and any venue maintenance issues to Company Directors so they can set a course of action.

To report any issues relating to staff that you have managed during service be they lateness, illness, performance related or something that could be considered misconduct directly to Directors so that we can resolve them and take an appropriate course of action.

To train bartenders in areas of food compliance, licensing compliance, health and safety compliance, and other company values, and procedures.

Monitoring and reporting the inventory to ensure all food and drink supplies are adequately stocked.

An ability to deliver service, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for customers and staff.

An ability to deliver exceptional customer service skills, and a service that exceeds expectations from the start to end of shift.

The ability to be accountable for any mistakes, to share their learning from them to ensure they are not repeated.

A desire to learn and improve and evolve. From increasing your knowledge of products, productions to sharing new best working practices, and observations to improve service and make the Company more efficient.

The ability to self-initiate tasks for yourself and your team, never having idle hands. There is always something we can do to get ahead for our next service or be ready to welcome the next 20 people through the door.

This includes draft beer, seasonal cocktails and wine. This is balanced with hosting our shop, orientating customers to our venue, waiting sections and hosting private events. This an opportunity to shape our drinks offering and develop new menu items utilising our herb garden, local producers and seasonal produce. You will learn how to greet customers, orientate them around our broad and specialist offering, and ultimately make them feel welcome. You will host them in our venue as part of a team that desires to achieve world-class hospitality, by tailoring their experience to their needs and preferences. There will be plenty of opportunity for you to learn about our offering from regular weekly tastings in house.

The role involves working weekends and evenings, with the venue open seven days a week from 12-11pm on most days as we go into summer. The hours can vary but we desire to hire for a minimum of 25 hours a week over three shifts. As Service Manager you will be expected to open or close the venue, and often do both, with shifts often 10:30am-10:30 pm.

The candidate:

Ideally you would have a minimum 1 years experience in a similar managerial position in a hospitality role. Alternatively you would bring a wealth of knowledge having worked at a number of hospitality venues and bring a specialism in either wine, beer and cocktails. Most importantly you will have a positive disposition, an eagerness to learn and grow and a love of making anyone feel at ease and welcome in our venue. You will have a passion and drive to grow and develop the business by seizing opportunities.
