Role Overview

As a Healthcare Assistant you’ll contribute in the delivery of care needs to the patients by assisting the team in providing a high standard of care and you’ll provide support to the team.

What you’ll do:

  • Welcome and receive patients, visitors and colleagues to the Unit.

  • Ensure at all times the needs and concerns of patients and their friends/relatives are

  • given thorough attention and a friendly and efficient service is provided.

  • Have an understanding of cultural needs.

  • Assist patients to orientate to the ward.

  • Report to a qualified nurse, any changes in a patient’s condition that may require

  • Refer patients’, relatives’ and colleagues’ queries to the Nursing Staff.

  • Accompany patients (including their friends and relatives) between Departments.

  • Assist patients with eating and drinking when required.

  • Assist in patient hygiene and elimination procedures.

  • Transport Clinical specimens / Prescription charts, as directed, to the relevant Departments.

  • Enter requests on the computer as directed.

  • Provide direct basic technical assistance to medical staff as and when required.

  • Assist with observation and collection of specimens.

  • Answer the telephone and pass on non - clinical messages as required.

  • Ensure filing systems are kept up to date.

  • Collect and distribute post as required.

  • Assist the receptionist and nursing staff with any other clerical duties when required.

What you’ll bring:

  • NVQ Level 2 (Direct Patient Care) or equivalent

  • Good communicator/interpersonal skills.

  • Good Verbal and written skills.

  • Caring, confident, assertive, compassionate, and sensitive.

  • Ability to work in a team.

  • I.T. Skills, numeric

  • Previous experience within a hospital setting

  • Phlebotomy trained

Please note this is a bank role to cover team absence and holidays
