Job description
Assist in providing confidential, holistic sexual and contraceptive health care and education to clients attending the service in a welcoming, sensitive and non-judgemental manner.
Work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary Team and support the Senior Nurses and Clinical Operations Lead in achieving the service, Directorate and Trust’s aims and objectives.
Demonstrate a flexible approach to days/hours worked and actively participate in changes to planned rota to ensure that service has appropriate nursing cover for all clinics/sites.
Accountable to the Registered Nurse/practitioner they are working with and the Senior Nurse.
Work to the level of experience, assessed competence and skills acquired within post.
Will not undertake any task that is unfamiliar and will require immediate and direct supervision in unknown areas of work.
Assist with individualised care/obtaining relevant samples for a designated group of patients in accordance with achieved competencies and scope of practice ie asymptomatic screening.
Understand informal consent and obtain/record permission before undertaking activities with clients.
Identify Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) sexual assault, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Child/Adult Safeguarding concerns and follow reporting/management protocols.
Manage clients attending clinic for sexual health screening.
Perform venepuncture.
Perform microscopy.
Assist clinicians prepare for/carry out procedures/sample taking. Process samples.
Chaperone during physical examinations.
Keep accurate, concise records.
Demonstrate good housekeeping, correct disposal of waste and reporting of hazards.
Provide basic sexual, contraceptive and HIV health promotion and advice.

PROBATIONARY PERIOD:
This post is subject to the successful completion of a probationary period of 6 months within which the notice period for both you and Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is four weeks.
STANDARDS
Staff are responsible for complying with the relevant standards set by their Line Manager. A breach of such standards may lead to disciplinary action. It would be investigated fairly and appropriate steps taken to prevent a recurrence and address any wider causes.

Non-clinical duties
Manage own time effectively and perform allocated tasks within a reasonable time frame.
Register/book clients if required, undertake related administrative tasks.
Prepare clinical area and equipment for use. Restock supplies and keep area safe, clean and tidy.
Identify and take appropriate actions as per level of competence for any untoward incident/accident or risk. Report as soon as possible to the nurse in charge.
Assist in the cleaning/maintenance of clinical equipment and report faults, breakages or missing items.
Participate in the ordering, unpacking and storage of supplies. Maintain/manage stock levels efficiently.
Education, training and development
Be a positive role model to support the service’s learning environment.
Participate with team in maintaining/monitoring standards. Help to identify potential improvements..
Assist with the training of new staff or students or other trainees..
Maintain own Personal Development Plan. Proactively prepare for and participate in appraisal and all required training.

Undertake practical tasks within competence as designated by a registered nurse.
Understand own limitations and not to undertake unfamiliar tasks but to seek find qualified staff advice and assistance when needed.
