Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity to join our surgical team and become a Surgical Care Practitioner. This is an exciting new post which looks to further develop the surgical department at University Hospitals Birmingham. We are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic person to take on the role with a view to supporting the continued role out of robotic surgery at University Hospital Birmingham.

In this role you will work to ensure continuity for the patient's journey, playing a key part in their care. You will be part of a very supportive department were you will be aided with training and qualifications. You will expand your clinical knowledge to provide specialist nursing expertise and gain the ability to train and develop others.

The surgical department at UHB is developing rapidly, there are plans for 3 new robotic systems in addition to the current robotic. We are looking for innovative new staff to join our team and fully realise the benefits of this investment.

This post is based at Solihull Hospital, but there may be some cross-site cover when required.

This will be a developmental role from Band 7 to Band 8a.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

In this unique role every day is different, therefore you will need the ability to think on your feet and trouble shoot. You will work with a multi-disciplinary team, including consultants and registrars to ensure a high quality, continuous service is provided to the patients and their families.

You will be trained to assist in robotic urological surgery, as well as laparoscopic and open urology surgery. It is expected that you will take an active role in the robotic surgery programme, and in time, support and train your nursing and medical colleagues and help grow the Surgical Practioner role in UHB.

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse / ODP who is keen to learn and develop their clinical skills. You will need commitment, flexibility and possess excellent communication skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work autonomously.
