Job summary
The Healthcare Income team at University Hospitals Birmingham are looking for an innovative, experienced Income Accountant to join their team.
We are based near to the City Centre and 5 minute walk from Five Ways train station and there are opportunities for home working.
The successful candidate will act as a lead financial specialist for the income team, supporting the Technical Accountant and Senior Income Accountant in providing a comprehensive financial management and business support service with regard to planning, negotiating and reporting healthcare income within the Trust. The post holder will assist in the smooth day to day running of the Income Team, advising other more junior members of the team as necessary before escalation to the Senior Income Accountant/Technical Income Accountant.

Qualifications
Essential
High Standard of General Education (Graduate level but as a minimum to A Level or equivalent).
5 GCSEs Grade A-C including Maths & English.
Desirable
Holder of a CCAB recognised Professional Accountancy Qualification - i.e. CCAB Fully Qualified Registered Member or significant relevant experience.
Experience
Essential
Experience of analysing, interpreting and presenting complex financial data and producing robust forecasts.
Experience of management accounting processes.
Experience of financial accounting, performing reconciliations, preparation of year end working papers.
Experience of providing training and support to others in own specialist area.
Evidence of planning and organising tasks required to achieve a specific outcome within a specified timeframe, without direction from line manager and of supervising the work of junior staff, ensuring a high quality of output.
Good working knowledge of and proven interest in the NHS including understanding of key targets and the performance management framework.
An in depth understanding of specific NHS policies affecting Income e.g. Tariff Payment System.
A firm knowledge of contracting processes within the NHS.
Familiarity with NHS information systems and processes including clinical coding and informatics.
Up to date knowledge of Financial and Management Accounting including UK GAAP as well as a sound practical knowledge of applying accounting principles, including, but without limitation: costing, financial audit principles.
Highly analytical and computer literate including MS word, Excel and Databases e.g. ability to write and understand: logical formulae, pivot tables, SQL script and report writer, macros etc. Must be able to evidence ability to create and manipulate complex spreadsheets and databases.
Desirable
Significant NHS finance experience in a commissioning or provider role, preferably in a large and complex organisation.
