Job summary

The specialty of Infectious Diseases (including the Covid Medicines Delivery Unit) is looking to appoint a talented, dynamic, forward thinking Service Manager. Are you keen to develop your career in operational management? This is a fixed term or secondment opportunity for someone who wishes to development the following skills, knowledge and experience:

  • To maintain and manage the Patient Tracking List (PTL) to provide assurance and management of the departments waiting list and provide oversight in areas that require improvement.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOP) to ensure the smooth running of the unit and the wider Infectious Diseases (ID) speciality.
  • Be able to interrogate and analyse Trust information systems to ensure the availability, quality and timeliness of information and data is available to support service planning and development.

The Service Manager is responsible for promoting the vision and values of University Hospitals Birmingham, leading by example and ensuring that they demonstrate those values in their leadership behaviours and how we support our teams and deliver our services.

The post holder will be based in Hawthorn House, Heartlands Hospital. Core working hours will be 0830-1630 or 0900-1700. However, there may be a need to work flexibly from time to time to meet the needs of the service.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The post will support the Operations Manager and General Manager with leadership, strategy and operational delivery. As a member of the operational management team you will work with the Operations Manager and General Manager on a range of performance activities and deputise for the Operations Manager when required. The ability to interpret and report data, alongside strong administrative and IT skills are important for this role.

We are looking for someone who can enthusiastically take on these challenges and be part of part of a close working and friendly team. You will demonstrate excellent communication skills and enthusiasm, with good organisational skills and the ability to work well under pressure. Previous experience of managing a team is essential. Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage your time and adapt to daily prioritisation is important.

Qualifications

Essential

Educated to GCSE level to include Maths and English or equivalent experience.

Experience

Essential

Minimum of 1 years operational management experience in the NHS

Experience of working within a NHS environment working with clinicians and other health care professionals at all levels of the organisation

HR - day to day supervision/management of staff and delivers training on a range of subjects.

Evidence of managing service/organisational change.

Evidence of experience in risk management and service improvement.
