Job summary

The Radiotherapy Department based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham has a vacancy for a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer role. We are seeking confident, highly motivated and forward thinking individuals with a passion for patient care and service development to join our radiotherapy team. Applications are welcomed from established Therapeutic Radiographers who would relish the challenge of being an integral part of a treatment and pre-treatment team.

Our radiotherapy department delivers one of the highest percentages of IG-IMRT treatments in the U.K. for a variety of sites including urological, sarcomas, head and neck and paediatric malignancies and also treats a large number of SABR patients for all commissioned indications. All suitable breast patients are treated with SGRT and a tattooless technique. DIBH is offered to all appropriate patients who have left sided breast cancer. There is also access to a prone breast technique for a certain cohort of patients.

We are committed to having state of the art technology for our patients and an equipment replacement programme is ongoing. We already have a wide variety of highly specialised radiotherapy equipment including 2 CT scanners, CyberKnife, two Tomotherapy HD units, HDR, deep x-ray and six five linear accelerators; all of which have XVI. A new Tomotherapy Radixact is currently being commissioned and will open in May 2023.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Applicants must hold a BSc (Hons) in Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent and have experience so are ready to start working as a senior radiographer.

In addition to responsibilities for deputising for the team leader for leadership and management of the therapeutic radiographer team, the post holder will be responsible for day-to-day treatment and imaging of patients in the treatment or pre-treatment area, including student training support. The post holder will also take a role in the current and future development of staff and services within Radiotherapy.

Professional development is high on our agenda and we have a commitment to Radiographer led services, with role advancement offered or actively being developed. All staff will be required to have a flexible approach to working hours to accommodate service demands as there is a requirement to routinely cover extended day working, Monday to Friday between 7.30am to 8pm. In addition there is a requirement to work bank holidays and some occasional weekend working in line with NRAG recommendations. There is also a requirement to participate in the weekend and bank holiday on call service.
