Band 6 Counsellor (IPT) - Birmingham Healthy Minds Birmingham, England

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust
Full Time Birmingham, England 35392 - 42618 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Do you have a mental health qualification and experience of providing psychological therapy for people with mental health problems? We are looking for either a qualified Interpersonal Psychotherapist, or a Mental Health Practitioner with a real passion for delivering evidence based counselling in primary care, who is looking for an opportunity to train in Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT).

Birmingham Healthy Minds will invest in successful candidates, offering full salary and course training costs to become an accredited IPT therapist. In return BHM seeks commitment from staff to contribute to the service as part of the wider team to develop and promote NHS Talking Therapies services to local communities and address health inequalities. See the IPTUK website for more details.

You will be working in a supportive team setting, with your own caseload, providing IPT to patients with moderate to severe depression. Interpersonal Psychotherapy is time limited, present focused, treatment that encourages patients to regain control of mood and functioning. Mood and life situations are related. Building on interpersonal theory and psychosocial research on depression IPT makes a practical link between the patient's mood and life events that either trigger or follow from the onset of the mood disorder. The patients are supported to focus on key areas/relationships to resolve their life problems in order to relieve their depressive symptoms. As this post requires you to have, or be supported to achieve, the IPT qualification, applicants must not have undertaken another HEE funded NHS Talking Therapies qualification within the last 24 months. IPT practitioner trainees must successfully pass the training, attend the full six days training and complete four cases under supervision, with casework reflecting at least two different focus areas.

BHM offers staff wellbeing initiatives; CPD, clinical supervision, teamwork, flexible and hybrid working (opportunities to deliver therapy both remotely and face to face) and evening work.

Welcome to Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. Our 4000 clinical and support staff help us to improve mental health wellbeing and meet the needs of the 70,000 people we serve each year. We provide a range of mental healthcare services across Birmingham and Solihull, as well as specialised services nationally. We also offer medical, nursing and psychology training and are proud of our international reputation for both research and innovation.

Our population is culturally diverse, characterised in places by high levels of deprivation which create an increasing demand for our services and a necessity for us to make sure everyone can access the help they need. We are a team of compassionate, inclusive and committed people working together to provide excellent care to support our community. If you are looking for a place to belong, where you can make a real difference to people’s lives, join our team where our warm welcome is waiting for you.
