Paediatrics is part of UHB which is one of the largest NHS Trusts in the country. We are an extremely friendly team, who are passionate about staff engagement & compassionate care.

We are seeking paediatric nurses who are passionate, dynamic and forward thinking to join our children's speciality. Our paediatric services at UHB provide care to a diverse population across three sites at Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull Hospitals.

PAU and CAU are our two Paediatric Assessment Units

Ward 16 offers Inpatient services at Heartlands Hospital

Our High Dependency offers level 2 care

3 Outpatient departments at Heartlands Hospital, Good Hope Hospital and Solihull Hospital

We offer a supportive foundation preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses or if you are experienced and seeking a new challenge then we will support and develop you to achieve your full potential.

We have full & part-time positions available within the paediatric inpatient unit at Heartlands and assessment units at Heartlands and Good Hope Hospitals. Cross site working required.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

JOB PURPOSE: To be responsible for the assessment of care needs the development implementation and evaluation of programme of care without direct supervision

To be responsible for ensuring patient care and safety are evaluated whilst on duty

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Responsibilities

To be aware of local policies and procedures and those for the Trust

To be aware of own training needs and developmental

To participate in health education

To report on care given, to other members of staff

To be aware of and respect the patient's rights for confidentiality

To be conversant with the 'Code of Professional Conduct' in duties

To be aware of Area Child Protection Committee policies and procedures and take appropriate action to Safeguarding children

All employees must comply with the Trust Infection Control Policy

Educational

To participate in the demonstration of procedures to qualified, healthcare assistant staff and nursing students

To supervise student nurses and demonstrate skills in patient care as a mentor providing a good learning environment

Managerial

To develop managerial skills by taking charge of the ward under supervision to prepare for future promotion

To be able, where deemed appropriate by Senior Sister, to take charge of the ward on an ad hoc basis & support the nurse in charge whilst on duty

Qualifications

Essential

Registered Children's Nurse on the NMC Register

Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC

Experience

Essential

Previous / recent experience or working in an acute secondary NHS care setting (can include student placements within the last 12 months )
Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of ongoing professional development/ competence
Experience of working on own and in a team in a health care environment delegating to others within a team / providing supervision to others
Willingness to become a Mentor to or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requirements for mentorship

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
