Here at Barnet, our physiotherapists play a vital role in supporting patients to optimise their abilities through therapeutic interventions and empowering collaboration. Each specialism has a multi-disciplinary team made up of therapy support workers, occupational therapists, dieticians, speech and language therapists and physiotherapists who work closely with their nursing, medical and surgical colleagues.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to enrol onto preceptorship program and to take part in 6-month rotations in the following specialities across the Barnet and Chase Farm Hospital sites:
- Acute Stroke
- Acute Neurology
- Medical / Health Services for Elderly People
- Rapid Response
- ITU / Surgery
- Orthopaedics – trauma and elective
- Musculoskeletal Outpatients
- Pelvic Health Outpatients
It is a requirement for this post to participate in the 7 day physiotherapy service and bank holiday cover.
The Therapies Team are passionate about developing and delivering a world class care service, and will provide training and development opportunities, including supervision and appraisal, to ensure you are supported in your role. There is a strong education ethos with a Band 5 in-service training program and frequent opportunities to learn from other disciplines both formally and informally. Applicants with a commitment to lifelong learning will be fully supported and given ample opportunity to take part in quality improvement ideas and finding ways to improve staff satisfaction and patient outcomes.

To assess and treat own caseload of patients/clients, who may have complex and/or chronic presentations, as an autonomous practitioner, and maintain associated records. Access to senior staff is ongoing and clinical work is routinely evaluated.
- To provide a high standard of physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic inpatients and outpatients
- To develop effective treatment plans based on evidence-based research seeking guidance from senior physiotherapist when necessary
- To coordinate interventions to enhance patient care which may include other disciplines e.g. surgical appliances, podiatry, occupational therapy, social work, general practitioners and consultants
- To participate in CPD using evidence-based practice, audits and published research to inform own practice and take an active role in own professional development
- To prioritise own workload and delegate to Support Workers when appropriate
- To support the physiotherapy management team and represent the department in the organisation and running of the service
- To support student placements
- To demonstrate an understanding and assist in implementing Clinical Governance and Risk Management strategies appropriate to the work situation
- To apply knowledge and understanding of a variety of cultural backgrounds and beliefs to our daily practice in order to respect individuals rights and dignity when assessing and treating patients
- To ensure accurate, comprehensive and contemporary documentation in line with legal, departmental and professional requirements
To demonstrate a range of skills and flexible communication skills to motivate patients with a range of conditions/disabilities to work with treatment programmes and work towards treatment goals
RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY AND SERVICE DEVELOPMENT:
To ensure compliance with NHS, Trust, professional body (CSP) and departmental policies and procedures
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES:
To be responsible for safe use of all equipment used in course of work including equipment/appliances used by patients under own care
To be responsible for managing time effectively
RESPONSIBILITY FOR LEADING AND MANAGING:
To participate in the implementation of the induction plan, training and education of students and other staff (e.g. health care assistants, MDT) in this setting
To plan and prioritise and delegate effectively and efficiently with regards to patient care and professional and organisational demands
RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES:
To maintain accurate and comprehensive patient treatment records in line with Departmental, CSP and Trust standards of practice
RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT:
To be an active member of the band 5 in-service training programme through attendance at and participation in the programme
To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives and carers in order to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy within a 24 hour management approach. This may include leading various physiotherapy patient education and health promotion group sessions
To participate in the department’s ongoing audit and work related research
