Job overview

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic Registered or soon to be Qualified Children's Nurses to join our teams at Good Hope and Birmingham Heartlands Hospital Children's Emergency Department .

We are a busy Emergency department providing 24 hour emergency care for infants, children and

young people up until their 16th Birthday.

Our teams now consist of a Paediatric Matron, fully supportive and established Band 7 and Band 6 Teams over both sites.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside Qualified Paediatric ACP's working within Paediatrics caring for Minor injury and illness.

As a new member of the team despite how much training you have had in the past you will be fully supported by a Paediatric Clinical Educator who will guide you through every step of your ED journey with courses, competencies and Study days being readily available.

We will develop your assessment skills via Study sessions that will enable you to Prescribe Oral medications to your Patients and perform X-rays on the minor Injury's.

Within 6 months you will be IV competent.

With the additional opportunity to complete your Venepuncture and cannulation skills sessions.

Develop Resus Skills via teaching and study days.

Minor Injury skills including Plaster Cast Application Competencies.

We can enhance your Safeguarding knowledge and expertise liaising with multiple services to help improve the care we provide to our Patients and their care givers.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

Delivering high quality care and treatment to patients in a timely manner

Providing Emergency care and treatment to patients requiring Resuscitation

  • To be fully aware of local policies and procedures and those for the Trust
  • To be aware of own training needs and developmental needs within the clinical environment.
  • To deliver patient care using the philosophy of individualised patient care.
  • To participate in Health Education.
  • To report on care given, to other members of staff, communicating changes as they occur.
  • To liaise with other health care professionals.
  • To be aware of and respect the patient's rights for confidentiality.
  • To be conversant with the 'Code of Professional Conduct' in duties.
  • To be professionally accountable for all actions during working shift.
  • To supervise student/learner nurses and healthcare assistant nurses in the giving of patient care.
  • To be aware of Area Child Protection Committee policies and procedures and take appropriate action to Safeguarding children.
  • All employees must comply with the Trust Infection Control Policy. All employees must attend infection control training as required within their department or as directed by their line manager
