UHB Neonatal Special Care Unit: Where a passion and career come together
UHB are seeking a Band 5, Neonatal Clinical Educator to work collaboratively with the fellow educators to lead the development and education of the large Neonatal workforce across University Hospitals Birmingham.
The purpose of continuous education in this specialised service is integral to ensure staff have the appropriate level of knowledge, skill and ability to deliver high standards of safe effective care to our babies and families. The individual must be interested in supporting and developing junior Neonatal staff, must be confident to teach, assess and supervise staff members within the clinical setting.
We are looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Neonatal nurse, who has recent hospital experience in nursing infants who have special care and high dependency needs. If you are competent in the assessment, treatment and management of babies, providing family integrated care and can support a nursing team through positive role modelling, professionalism and education then we want to hear from you!

Main duties, tasks & skills required
Within this role you will work collaboratively with Neonatal education colleagues and the multi-disciplinary team to deliver education and skills training to nursing members of the workforce.
A robust induction and skills framework will enable nursing staff to develop confidence and competence and ensure our infants and families receive high quality evidence based care.
You will participate in the development of new recruits, acting as a clinical role model in neonatal Special Care (SCBU), this role will support staff to transition from special care to High dependency (NHDU) after the initial preceptorship period, working towards a service with a higher skill set.
The post holder will plan and deliver teaching sessions to assess staff member's knowledge and application of skill when nursing patients and when using equipment.
You will need to be confident when communicating to ensure that you can support staff effectively, this includes providing pastoral care, maintaining wellbeing and helping staff to meet their developmental needs
The educator will be competent in new practice initiatives and act as a change agent within the defined speciality. They will need to be a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who promotes a positive attitude to learning at all times.

Qualifications
Essential
Registered Children's nurse or Adult nurse on the permanent NMC Register
Neonatal Life Support qualification
Mentoring qualification or equivalent experience as Practice Assessor
Experience
Essential
Minimum 12 months neonatal experience
Relevant subject knowledge as evidenced through qualifications & clinical practice
Recent clinical experience in a neonatal setting
Evidence of the ability to support and supervise new neonatal recruits.
Experience of teaching and coaching students in the clinical environment.
Participated in the assessment of clinical knowledge and skills
Experience of providing constructive feedback
Delivering family integrated care and teaching parents within the clinical environment
Working knowledge of IT
Understanding / experience of the principles of Children's Safeguarding
Awareness of health and safety issues and how these relate to training in both simulation / practice settings
Experience with supporting staff or students through challenging situations, escalating appropriately and maintaining confidentiality
Experience of incident reporting, identifying risks
