The post holder will be performing complex analytical investigations on patient samples in order to provide a quality and timely diagnostic service essential for patient care under the direction of the Section Lead Biomedical Scientists. Duties will also include supervision of trainees / Associate Practitioners and MLAs and involvement in training, audit, health and safety and or I.T.
The purpose of the role is to support the diagnostic service provided by the department to the trust.
We have an opportunity for a Band 5 or Annex U Band 5 trainee BMS to work in Histology at Queen’s Hospital, Romford.
Preferentially we are looking for an existing Band 5, HCPC registered BMS with experience in Histology. We will consider a newly registered BMS or trainee BMS providing they hold an IBMS approved degree and can demonstrate a significant component of Histology studied as part of your degree within the supporting information. You must be able to demonstrate an interest and desire to work in Histology.
The successful candidate will work across the full range of services provided by a histology service including dissection, microtomy, cryotomy, special stains, IHC and molecular. High quality work is essential.
You must be pro-active, motivated, innovative and be able to demonstrate excellent communication (verbal and written), organisation and manual dexterity skills. You need to demonstrate a patient focused approach to work and detail how you are committed to continual improvement of self and the service.
Interviews will be face to face only as the interview process with involve a test.

This post is based at Queens Hospital, but all staff must be prepared to work at King George Hospital if required.
