Job Introduction

An opportunity has arisen for a Band 4 Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join the BANES Community Neuro and Stroke service. The post is 37.5 hours a week fixed term for a year.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our dynamic multi-disciplinary team providing specialist rehabilitation in the community for service users who have had a stroke or who have a long term neurological condition.

Main Responsibilities
  • Assess for and provide equipment for service users with complex presentations.
  • Support the changing needs of service users with progressive neurological conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neuron Disease and Parkinson’s Disease including service users who have reached the end of life stage of their condition.
  • Provide administration support for qualified OTs when requesting trial of and funding for provision of specialist equipment, including gaining quotes and liaising with equipment company reps.
  • Actively participate in regular supervision. Request support from senior colleagues (available at all times) as needed.
  • Deliver personal care for service users using a rehabilitation approach. Create and upgrade protocols for personal care to be delivered by other team members and with support, decide when patients are safe to manage personal care independently.
The Ideal Candidate

Essential

  • Demonstrate an ability and willingness to participate in the competency training of specific knowledge and skills needed for the job.
  • Hold evidence of continued learning and development..
  • Experience of working within a rehabilitation setting
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to carry out detailed observations & functional assessments with service users.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate ability to know when to escalate issues.
  • Access to a car to enable travel to service users homes including delivery of equipment.

Desirable

  • Hold an Assistant Practitioner diploma
  • Experience in community services supporting patients in their homes
