We are currently recruiting for Band 3 Laboratory Technician to join our fast paced and dynamic Microbiology team. This role is part of a team which provides an efficient and effective Microbiology service to two general hospitals (Southend University/Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital Trusts) and local GP community. We’re the first lab in the UK to be able to offer some Specialist BMS staff the opportunity to read bacterial cultures from home, utilising BD Kiestra Synapsys technology.
We are looking for a Laboratory Technician (Microbiology) to join the team at Pathology First.
- To be able to rotate through all areas of the Laboratories as required (Dependent on experience and training), to perform all designated duties in accordance with local working practices, to maintain high personal standards and conform to Health and Safety regulations
- To prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols
- To work within agreed quality standards of service delivery and turnaround times under the supervision of Associate Practitioners
- To continue with personal development through academic or practical experience
Essential Skills and Experience:
- NVQ3, or equivalent, level of knowledge
- Working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing
- Good degree of accuracy & numeracy
- Knowledge of computer applications in use within Pathology, particularly LIMS, Quality Management System and Procurement system
- Adept at majority of specimen receipt and preparation procedures
- Experience of working in a Biomedical laboratory
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of levels of staff within the laboratory and user organisations
Desirable
- Progress to a degree entry qualification
