Job description
Join us as a Health Care Assistant (HCA) in the nuclear medicine department and become part of an expert team that performs diagnostic tests for patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease.
If you are enthusiastic and proud of your abilities and want to share your skills while learning new ones, then we would like to hear from you. The department offers a supportive and respectful environment providing you with the opportunity to develop your skills with career development utilising internal and external training opportunities.
Your role will be to assist our multi-professional team to deliver an outstanding service for patients during morning clinics (20 hrs per week, 09:00 until 13:00, Monday to Friday).
Your main responsibility will be to assist nursing and radiographer staff to perform a procedure called myocardial perfusion scintigraphy (MPS). This involves the use of a small, safe amount of a radioisotope to image cardiac blood flow. Most patients that attend for this are self-caring but need reassurance and varying degrees of physical help. All patients need blood pressure and electrocardiographical (ECG) monitoring during the procedure that you will need to assist with. Caring for patients is the main duty of this job with other important responsibilities such as preparing clinical rooms, equipment and patients’ areas in a safe, tidy and presentable fashion.
The post holder will join a small and friendly team of nurses to help support patient care through their scans. There will also be an opportunity to work with colleagues from the other diagnostic departments.
Experience in a hospital environment is desirable, but not essential, as full training will be provided including clinical, radiation protection and handling skills. However, evidence of experience with customer care is essential. You must be good at working closely within a multi-professional team, have excellent communication and organisational skills and be resourceful and supportive of individual needs for patients. You should be able to assist with patient data collection for audit and research and be able to add information to a dedicated computer data base.
