To work in a team of support staff playing a crucial role in the reception and preparation of patient samples and requests, to facilitate the provision of a quality and timely diagnostic and monitoring service essential for patient care.
Are you looking for a change of a career? This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy team of NHS Blood Sciences reception staff at King George Hospital, Goodmayes. We have our main site at Queen’s and a sister site at King George Hospital, Goodmayes. Staff may be asked to work across site if required. This role involves the receipt and preparation of samples to be made ready for testing in a timely and efficient manner. The Blood Sciences Reception takes receipt of all Pathology samples, sorts them into the correct discipline and then works with those samples for Blood Sciences. Samples are labelled and the data entered onto the computer. Samples are prepared for testing which may include centrifuging, aliquotting, racking or packaging for sending away to other laboratories. Reception is the first point of contact for Trust Staff, porters, visitors and sometimes patients. The work includes early or late shifts and some weekend working. There is now the opportunity for progression within the reception role, for the right person, to a Band 3 and then possibly a Band 4 level. There is no direct progression at this time for the Generic Portfolio for BMS registration, so if you have a degree in Biomedical Sciences, this is not the role for you. We are looking for a person that would be happy to progress, if they would like to, within our Blood Sciences Reception department. If you have basic English and Maths qualifications, can use a computer, are a hard worker and want a chance to join our team on a full time basis, then this is the role for you.
