SYNLAB UK & Ireland have extensive experience of working in partnership with the NHS to deliver and improve pathology services through its existing pathology joint ventures - including Southwest Pathology Services (SPS).

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Assistant to support the leadership of Southwest Pathology Services within our Pre-Analytics and team, based at our hub laboratory in Taunton.

Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and process clinical specimens for biomedical testing, within operating procedures and protocols.
  • Utilise the laboratory LIMS, Q-Pulse quality monitoring system and other application software according to authorised protocols including assisting in computer data entry in all areas of the laboratory.
  • To ensure deliverables meet ISO15189 standards and are written up in accordance with those standards.
  • To complete regular, timely reports as required.
  • To provide good working practices and ensure that they are maintained in the relevant laboratory department.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • 4 GCSEs to include English, Maths and at least one Science subject.
  • Working knowledge of the receipt and preparation of samples for biomedical testing.
  • Good degree of accuracy & numeracy.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt efficiently to change.

Desirable:

  • Science A – Levels or a degree entry qualification.
