Job description
Why work for us - Why work for us? (southampton.gov.uk)
Southampton Children and Learning Service is a vibrant group of locality teams, based at the Civic Centre, and with a strong, supportive and family culture. It includes an Advice and Information Hub for referrers and a Children’s Resource Service. The safeguarding service provides purposeful, brief intervention alongside assessment, and support for children in need, children subject to a child protection plan and those within pre-proceedings and proceedings. Our newly formed Young People’s Service has its own Hub area where young people are able to access the support that they need from their allocated support system as well as other associated service areas. The Pathways Through Care Service offers support to children and young people who are looked after by the local authority and beyond, as they move forwards towards independence.
The Children and Learning service models our systemic and restorative practice framework, creating a culture where strong, child-centred practice thrives. We strongly promote relationship-based and solution-focused responses to safeguarding concerns by providing social workers with manageable workloads and high levels of support, including access to clinical guidance.
We promote a learning environment where colleagues are encouraged to progress their passion and interest for interventions with children and their families, along with a real focus on partnership working across the city. Applications are welcomed from those interested in joining a team and a service who are working towards an innovative provision for the children of Southampton.
We have vacancies across the service and are looking for graduates to join us as Newly Qualified Social Workers, as you begin your journey to becoming outstanding social work practitioners. We will offer you excellent support with a dedicated training and development programme that also incorporates regular, reflective supervision. During your ASYE year you will be supported by an ASYE assessor, who is based in the Practice Development Team and who will be available to you for in-person support. Our Graduate Programme extends into your second post qualifying year, where we continue to offer Action Learning Sets and reflective supervision sessions as well as a reduced caseload.
You will start as a Family Engagement Worker in your service, with an annual salary of £32,909. Following receipt of your Social Work England registration, you will progress into your position as a Qualified Social Worker with an annual salary of £37,261.
If you want to become part of the Southampton family and are interested in coming with us as we continue to Build for Brilliance, then we are looking forward to hearing from you.
