Job description
This is an exciting opportunity for an Aviation Security Officer to the Security team at Birmingham Airport.
No two days will be the same, you will be carrying out security ID and boarding card checks and physical searches or you may be carrying out escort duties, including special events on the day or responding to emergency incidents following the agreed procedures the next. You will be expected to display a considerable amount of judgement and organisation.
Please see the below main duties and responsibilities:
To control access into restricted areas of the Airport.
To carry out security ID and boarding card checks and physical searches to a minimum of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) standards of all persons and articles carried, requiring access through the Security Checkpoints.
To respond to emergency incidents following the agreed procedures.
To carry out escort duties, including special events when required.
To advise passengers, staff and crew on the correct presentation of persons and items carried, to ensure individuals are fully prepared for Security screening.
To undertake foot patrols of operational areas and designated routes.
To be compliant with Aviation Security local operating procedures, working practices and protocols.
To meet compliance and throughput targets as stipulated by the Security Management Team.
You must be able to work all shift with start time's from 02.45 to 13.30 daily, you will work on a shift basis including early and late shift time's, your normal pattern will be any 5 days from 7 over the week including weekends.
- Vetting
Your name and date of birth will be shared with West Midlands Police and West Midlands Counter Terrorist Policing. This sharing is done to cross reference your information against the Police National Database to check for any disqualifiable criminal convictions. Your name and date of birth will also be processed against a National database by West Midlands Counter Terrorist Unit to identify any terrorism and National Security risks. This is necessary to support the safeguarding of national security and the prevention and detection of crime, including to help prevent attacks against airports and aviation in the UK.
Your information will be shared with the Head of Security and People Director when it is necessary for a serious investigation to determine your ongoing employment with the Airport. The Airport uses an external vetting company, where required, and your personal information will be shared with them to complete vetting.
