Our client has over 65 years of complex plastic injection molding expertise with contract manufacturing locations in the United States, China, Mexico, and Europe. Clients include some of the world's most renowned healthcare, automotive, and industrial OEMs.
The Automation Engineer oversees introducing new program automation and enhancing the efficiency and productivity of current manufacturing systems across all manufacturing departments. Job responsibilities include researching, recommending, and implementing technological advancements to ensure Quality and improve efficiencies.
- Design, manage, and implement automation solutions for new molding and assembly programs on time and within budget.
- Identify, cost justify, implement, and manage new manufacturing systems and equipment to improve plant productivity to achieve labor reduction and improve quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve existing production automation issues.
- Provides ongoing training to new and existing manufacturing technical staff members in the operation/maintenance of vision systems and specialized automated cells.
- Participate in and lead FAT, IQ, SAT, and final validation activities at suppliers and accepting manufacturing sites.
- Plan, recommend, and implement dedicated business specialty manufacturing cells to eliminate labor, improve lead times, and reduce inventory levels.
- Works with Manufacturing Engineers, Process Engineers, and other Manufacturing personnel to establish satisfactory processes and troubleshoot problems.
- Interacts with suppliers and customers during process development and automation implementation.
- Interact with Program Managers to provide project-specific task updates and milestone achievements.
- Works with Mold Setters, Molding Technicians, Quality, Automation, and Maintenance as required.
Who will be a great fit?
- 5+ years’ experience in injection molding processing and automation
- B.S. in Plastics or Mechanical Engineering, with a focus on Automation.
- Must have comprehensive knowledge of the injection molding process. Familiar with machinery up to a press capacity of 500 tons.
- Strong knowledge of molding automation and auxiliary equipment including robotics, control systems, PLCs, and material handling (raw material, WIP, and finished products).
- Knowledge of ISO standards, SPC, TQM, and GMPs.
- Strong project management skills including budgeting and cost justification and control.
- Experience and knowledge in areas of Industrial Engineering (Labor/Time Study), DFM, SPC, and Production Monitoring Systems (Mattec).
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and manufacturing personnel.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to take a systematic approach to process optimization and problem-solving.
- Up-to-date knowledge of robotics, injection molding machine technology, and capabilities. Must be willing to attend appropriate seminars or classes to continually improve upon automation skill sets.
