We are recruiting for an Audit Assistant to start in September. This permanent full time position will be based in our Oxford office and comes with a comprehensive induction and study package to pursue professional qualifications.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has at least 1 year’s audit practice experience. You will specialise in audit within your first year of training, but you will likely have a mix of accounts preparation work and audit during your full training period.

The Role
This is a training position and full training and support will be given to develop your skills and abilities for a long-term career within our practice. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Building productive working relationships within Shaw Gibbs and with clients as required.
- Developing and applying your technical knowledge through on the job training and formal qualifications.
- Preparing audit working papers for the areas that you are involved, including but not limited to bank, fixed assets, wages and salaries, debtors and creditors.
- Attending clients stocktakes and reporting findings.
- Assisting more senior members of staff in other areas of the audit file.
- Preparing notes to summarise your findings and recommendations for the senior’s, manager’s and partner’s attention.
- Posting the audit clients’ trial balances into statutory accounts format and updating disclosures as necessary.
- Using accounting software to provide accurate reporting for Managers, Partners and clients.
- Preparing basic corporation tax computations for audit clients.
About You
We would like to hear from you if you are a quick learner and can tick all of the below:
- At least 1 year’s UK audit practice experience
- Educated to A Level (or equivalent standard) or higher e.g. degree. You must have a minimum of 3 A Levels at grades B, B, C or higher
- Strong aptitude for IT, specifically Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Proven communication skills, verbal and written
- A positive, confident and proactive attitude
- Enjoy working as part of a team and self-motivated
- Willingness to undertake and succeed in a range of professional studies
- Relevant work experience would be great but not essential
