Job description
We’ve got two full-time, permanent vacancies in our rewarding and busy Childcare Legal Team, and if you’ve got the right motivation, skills and experience we’d like you to come and join us. These are rewarding roles and you’ll be part of a team contributing to making a real difference.
Ideally you’ll be qualified as a solicitor, barrister or FCILEx, with experience as a childcare lawyer. We are a supportive team, committed to securing positive outcomes for children and young people, working alongside our outstanding Ofsted rated Together for Families Service.
Of course, you’ll have excellent communication skills, be able to work under pressure and to strict timescales. You’ll also be adaptable, flexible and ready to work collaboratively as part of an experienced team of specialist colleagues, giving advice on all aspects of childcare law. The opportunity is there for you to develop your advocacy skills in range of courts and tribunals, and at a variety of hearing. We will also support your enthusiastic approach to developing your skills and knowledge.
You should expect a varied and challenging workload across the childcare spectrum, including:
- PLO matters
- Preparing and processing all legal documents, including thresholds, case summaries and court applications
- Mentoring and supporting the legal assistants within the team
- Advising on S37 reports
Don’t worry if you don’t have local government experience as we’ll give you the support you need to develop and learn that area.
There are many benefits of working for Cornwall Council such as a defined benefit pension scheme, competitive salary, family friendly policies and flexible working.
This role can be carried out largely remotely but with some office-based working as required to support the service needs. We can discuss this with you during the recruitment process and we are open to discussion about flexible working.
