Position Overview
The Associate Vice President, Development will provide strategic development leadership for colleges and units across The Ohio State University, including: business, law, engineering, arts and sciences, food, agricultural and environmental sciences, education and human ecology, public policy, social work, scholarship and student support, student life, international advancement, Wexner Center for the Arts, WOSU and libraries. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Associate Vice President will elevate the university’s comprehensive approach to fundraising through strategic leadership. Ohio State is nearing the close of its Time and Change comprehensive campaign with a goal of $4.5 billion.
The Associate Vice President will have oversight of a broad range of development activities and management oversight of two Assistant Vice Presidents. Focus will be on leading the team to build and execute annual and campaign work plans and achieve fundraising goals; coaching major gift officers to peak performance; strategizing on prospect and donor management/stewardship; strengthening partnerships among colleges/units and central advancement units; building strong partnerships with college deans and academic leaders; deepening the culture of philanthropy, increasing awareness and involvement in advancement work among faculty and staff across the university; planning for campaign close and transition; and capital fundraising. Close working relationships with leaders and managers across advancement, academic leadership, and the Office of Academic Affairs are vital to success of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities
50% Leadership
Enhances the skills of a high-performing development team to ensure an innovative, collaborative, inclusive, best practice approach to achieving fundraising goals. Coaches, motivates, and develops professionals across the organization to support an attractive work environment in which fundraising professionals thrive. Collaborates with colleagues to establish appropriate metrics to assess individual and team performance.
50% Strategic Fundraising
Works closely with the Vice President of Development to establish and implement fundraising initiatives. Drives sustainable increases in annual philanthropic support for colleges and units. Is accountable for a significant portion of the university’s annual fundraising goals. Analyzes and reports on data and makes recommendations for improvement to processes and programs with an eye on continuous improvement. Maximizes partnerships with central service providers such as Estate and Planned Giving, Principal Gifts, Corporate Relations and Foundation Relations, Donor Experience, Stewardship, Prospect Research and Business Intelligence to align and support the achievement of college and unit goals. Facilitates collaboration in support of interdisciplinary projects and related fundraising. Represents the Vice President in performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
15 years of progressively responsible, fundraising and engagement experience in higher education.
Direct oversight and management of higher education colleges and/or units, annual giving, donor relations and alumni relations.
Proven track record of securing principal and major gifts.
