About the job

Job summary

We are looking for software engineers to join us in the Intelligent Automation Garage (IAG) to contribute to and support the design, build, deployment, and maintenance of products with the potential to dramatically transform the future of millions of people.

To date, DWP’s IAG have developed, deployed and scaled 60 automations, processing over 27m cases. Recognised as a Government leader in Intelligent Automation, DWP is also acknowledged as leading the way across industry.

You will be part of team that uses a blend of the latest techniques and technologies such as natural language processing, optical character recognition, computer vision, machine learning, event-driven architecture, microservice architecture, serverless computing, robotic process automation, and infrastructure-as-code.

Job description

As a Software Engineer in the IAG, you will be responsible for creating clean, secure, and well-documented code, whilst following industry standard architectural and engineering principles.

You will work as part of a fast-paced multi-functional agile delivery team of Project Managers, Architects, Business Analysts, Software Engineers, RPA Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and Test Engineers focused on one or more products and will be committed to building something we’re all proud of.

To help you really make a difference, you’ll be using the best tools and equipment for the job. We plan and track work in Jira, we document in Confluence and SharePoint, we communicate using Teams and Slack, we commit, build and deploy code with GitLab, we use best-in-class cloud services from Amazon Web Services (AWS), and we do it all on the latest MacBook Pro devices.

As a member of the DWP Engineering practice, you’ll have access to some fantastic learning and development resources; conferences with industry expert speakers, subscriptions to digital training solutions such as Cloud Academy, and comprehensive instructor-led training. You will also have access to support through direct Slack channels with partners such as AWS, GitLab and MongoDB for every day on the job learning.

Last but certainly not least, the IAG is ambitious, energetic, driven but fun-loving. With great team spirit and a diverse culture, we like to support and socialise with one another.
