The company has unique capabilities in the development and commercialisation of 2-D and 3-D (organoid) in vitro assays focused on four distinct tissues; kidney, retina, liver and lung. We work with global pharmaceutical companies to provide important data on the safety, pharmacology and efficacy of new therapies.

We are currently looking for a talented and passionate individual to join our lung platform team and contribute to the development of in-vitro models for the study of fibrotic lung diseases. You will work as part of a growing team of scientists and technicians to develop and characterise models and contribute to the execution of commercial projects with our growing customer base.

This position is located at our laboratories, based in a modern campus, close to the centre of the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

Key Activities and Responsibilities

· Production, and further development of cellular based assays for the study of lung fibrosis, with a key focus on high-content imaging and biomarker analysis.

· Planning and execution of client projects, ensuring compliance with company operating procedures and high standards of record keeping.

· Contribution toward the development of in-vitrolung models such as primary cultures and iPSC derived cell types.

· Routine performance of analytical techniques including flow cytometry, qPCR and immunocytochemistry.

· Management of lung group stock supplies and contribution towards day-to-day operations of the laboratory including stock, equipment maintenance and safety documentation.

Person Specification

Essential

· Scientific graduate with a BSc/MSc in Biomedical/Pharmacological Sciences or Equivalent.

· Prior cell culture experience and ability to work independently using aseptic technique.

· Previous experience and knowledge in molecular biology techniques such as; DNA/RNA isolation, PCR/RT-qPCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, ELISA, immunohistochemistry/immunocytochemistry.

· Motivation and willingness to learn new laboratory techniques and the ability to be agile and prioritise workloads accordingly.

· Dedicated team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

· Excellent organisation skills, including maintenance of accurate and traceable records in-line with company procedures.

· Prior experience in COSHH and risk assessment preparation.

Desirable

· Previous experience in lung physiology/disease and/or epithelial cell biology.

· Previous experience in the culture and/or differentiation of fibroblasts.

· Previous experience in co-culture systems.

· Experience of in vitro drug discovery and/or toxicology.

· Prior experience in GLP and following SOPs.

· Prior experience in COSHH and risk assessment preparation.
