The Department of Engineering Science intends to appoint an Associate Professor of Engineering Science (Electrical Engineering – Digital Technologies) from 1 January 2024 or earlier if possible. The successful candidate will work at the Department of Engineering Science (OX1 3PJ) and will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship at University College under arrangements described in the Job Description. The salary will be on a scale currently from £50,300-£67,541 per annum plus additional benefits as indicated in the Job Description. The appointment will be initially for five years at which point, upon completion of a successful review, the post-holder will be eligible for reappointment to the retiring age.
This appointment will add further strength to the Department’s internationally renowned portfolio of Electrical and Optoelectronic Engineering research. Our core research themes in Electrical and Optoelectronic Engineering are communications and electromagnetics, computer infrastructure, energy storage and energy systems, microelectronic circuits and systems, optical systems, photonics, power electronics, and quantum information and quantum technology systems.
Applications are welcomed in the broad area of Digital Technologies including, but not limited to, Internet of Things (IoT), System-on-chip (SoC) design, Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs), Computer architectures, Computer networks and digital communications, and Hardware Accelerators (e.g., GPUs APU, DPU).
Candidates should have wide experience in the applications of their subject to engineering problems and we welcome applications from candidates with teaching experience in appropriate topics in electrical engineering. We also encourage applications from candidates enthusiastic to collaborate with our existing portfolio of Electrical Engineering research as well as our portfolio of research that cover other branches of engineering within the Department of Engineering Science.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in the field of Electrical engineering or a cognate discipline, a proven research record of high quality at international level, significant future research potential, and the ability to attract external funding and develop an independent programme of research. They will have the ability to teach effectively at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and have excellent interpersonal skills for undertaking tutorial teaching. Undergraduate teaching may include lectures and practical classes as well as the supervision of undergraduate design and project work.
