As Associate Professor - Nursing at BNU you will join an established senior leadership team to provide strong leadership for nursing teams for all fields of Nursing, (adult, child, mental health and learning disability) and Nursing Associates to promote innovation in nurse education, enhance quality, and student experience.

You will lead, develop, and champion nursing; grow nursing programmes and enhance the nurse education. In the role of Associate Professor - Nursing you will make a significant contribution to Education, Professional Practice and research, develop high quality student centred academic programmes underpinned by academic scholarship (research, knowledge exchange and professional practice). You will strengthen the external profile for nursing at BNU for practice, education, innovation, research and enterprise, maintain and grow their own national profile in nursing in education, practice and /or research, enterprise and innovation.

For this role you will require current registration with the NMC as a nurse, you will be qualified to masters level in a relevant subject and be a highly skilled leader and manager. You will need to have extensive experience and be able to demonstrate depth of understanding of nurse education including current opportunities and challenges.

Job Purpose:
  • To make a significant and demonstrable contribution to Education, Professional Practice and research within the School and University focused on chosen BAF track.
  • To develop high quality student centred academic Nursing programmes underpinned by academic scholarship (research, knowledge exchange and professional practice).
  • The facilitation of student enhancement activities across the School, promotion of quality processes and seeking opportunities to share best practice across the School.
  • To maintain an external profile within learning and teaching in own subject area at a level appropriate to the discipline.
  • To work with the healthcare development teams on the design, development, delivery and management of new innovative academic programmes within the School in line with contemporary trends in curriculum development and stakeholder demand


Main Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
Education
  • To lead the design, development, delivery and management of new innovative nursing focused academic programmes, in line with contemporary trends in curriculum development and stakeholder demand which contributes to enhanced student recruitment and retention.
  • To undertake research informed teaching in the subject discipline managing all aspects of curriculum delivery and the associated student experience to the highest standard in accordance with the University’s requirements.
  • To undertake and promote cross disciplinary teaching to contribute to the success of the wider University
  • To review student satisfaction data and develop School action plans for continuous improvement evidenced through external benchmarks such as NSS, TEF and league table position.
  • To contribute at a national level to champion selected aspects of disciplinary pedagogy producing works of scholarship of teaching.
  • To lead work in partnership with students on curriculum reform projects and champion innovate forms of teaching delivery.

Professional Practice
  • To create and collaborate with networks within the School, across the University and externally to support:
  • The curriculum development of programmes that enhance the student experience and which respond to employer demand.
  • Raise the profile of the School through engagement with key external stakeholders, industry and employers and professional bodies to foster collaboration and generate business opportunities.
  • To maintain an external profile within Nursing subject area at a level appropriate to the discipline.
  • Representing and promoting the interests of the University at a senior level to external policy making, funding and other bodies at a regional, national and international level in your subject area to enhance the reputation of the University.
  • To contribute to technological, economic and cultural developments which enhance the community and also society as a whole.

Research
  • To produce and disseminate high quality innovative research publications.
  • Contribute to knowledge through peer reviewed outputs.
  • To publish in the field, maintaining a national and increasingly international external profile
  • Develop research, innovation and impact at an appropriately benchmarked level supporting research clusters across the University.
  • To enable research within own School and to collaborate with Senior Researchers to ensure this is integrated into the curriculum.
  • Participate in research and collaborative partnerships with external bodies.

Leadership and Management
  • Significant contribution to the strategic direction of the University by representing the school at internal management committees and actively promoting university policies.
