We invite applications for an Associate Professor in Management who can deliver to students on bachelor degree, masters, doctoral and professional programmes to join the department management team. Your specific academic specialism may be in any of the following, or related, areas: Strategy, Operational Management, Organisation Behaviour, Human Resources, Cross-Cultural Management or Leadership.

As the successful candidate, your core role, outside of teaching and supervision, will be to support the Head of Department by leading on projects and initiatives of strategic importance (many of which will be in the areas of curriculum development, learning, teaching and the student experience), and taking a lead in operational activities such as timetabling and resourcing. You will also directly manage academic staff within the department and a small number of Visiting Lecturers. As a senior academic within your field, you will also be expected offer leadership and mentoring to more junior colleagues within your areas of research and scholarship.

The following (non-exclusive) list of duties and responsibilities are typical in this role:

  • Line manage staff within the Department of Management.
  • Work with the Head of Department and wider School management team to develop and deliver operational strategies that support the ambitions and running of the department and school.
  • Take overall responsibility for the organising and deployment of resources within own areas of responsibility.
  • Oversee the design and development of the overall curriculum.
  • Design, develop and deliver a range of programmes of study at various levels.
  • Lead the development and clarification of academic standards and quality for the subject area.
  • Engage in external academic activities in accordance with the Department’s teaching and research strategy and enhance the Department’s national/international profile.
  • Substantially contribute to the research and scholarship activities undertaken within the School and University.
  • Support students pastorally (e.g. as a personal tutor).
  • Ensure the efficient delivery of teaching courses in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy, and procedures, whilst also assisting in the ongoing administration and support of our courses.
  • Lead the development of new and creative approaches in responding to student learning experience challenges.

Requirements for this role include the following:

  • A higher professional qualification, normally a doctoral degree
  • FHEA status (or equivalent) or preferably SFHEA
  • Proven academic leadership
  • Recognised achievement in scholarship, research and leading edge practice at a national (and preferably international) level
  • Evidence of a leadership and development role in high quality teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Evidence of high quality, internationally recognised publications or other relevant outputs in research or leading edge practice
  • Evidence of a positive contribution to the administration and general life and work of an academic institution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability to think strategically
  • Able to communicate complex and conceptual ideas to a range of groups
  • Able to use a variety of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students
  • Demonstrable commitment to improving student experience
  • Evidence of curriculum development and the management of quality enhancement in a HE environment
  • Able to manage and lead others and manage resources effectively
  • Able to set clear performance expectations for self and others and achieve measurable, evidenced, outcomes.
